This stream springs from the western Adirondacks, runs for about 75 miles, and pours into the New Erie Canal at Herkimer. Along the way, it fills and drains Hinckley and Prospect Reservoirs. The 2,800-acre Hinckley Reservoir averages about 7 feet deep and has a maximum depth of 20 feet. Its main tributary and outlet is West Canada Creek. Its waters are acidic and infertile, making it one of the most austere reservoirs in the state. What few nutrients it gets are washed away during winter drawdown. Prospect Reservoir starts directly below the Hinckley Reservoir Dam and stretches for about 1 mile to the Power Dam. Key species: Brown trout, brook trout, yellow perch, rock bass, rainbow trout, and smallmouth bass.
