Set in the north tip of the Sargent Ponds Wild Forest, the 556-acre Lake Eaton's wooded shoreline is spotted with campsites. It averages 26 feet deep and has a maximum depth of 56 feet. Bordered on its entire north side by state land, the 287-acre Lake Harris averages 11.5 feet deep and has a maximum depth of 40 feet. Nestled in the William C. Whitney Wilderness, the 2,305-acre Little Tupper Lake is surrounded by forest, averages 10 feet deep, and has a maximum depth of 25 feet. Set in the William C. Whitney Wilderness, the 1,414-acre Lake Lila averages 25 feet deep and has a maximum depth of 75 feet. The largest body of water in the forest preserve totally bound by state land, it is named for railroad magnate William Seward Webb’s wife—the adjoining township is named for the man himself. Key species: Landlocked Atlantic salmon, lake trout, brown trout, brook trout, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, pumpkinseed, northern pike, largemouth bass, yellow perch, and brown bullheads.
