Located on the seam of the Pigeon Lake Wilderness and the Moose River Plains Wild Forest, the 150-acre Lower Brown Tract Pond averages 14 feet deep and has a maximum depth of 33 feet. The 51-acre Upper Brown Tract Pond is totally surrounded by woods, averages 14 feet deep, and has a maximum depth of 33 feet. Located deep in the Pigeon Lake Wilderness, the 268-acre Shallow Lake averages 11 feet deep and has a maximum depth of 30 feet. Less than 20 feet from the road in spots, punctuated by several forested islands, shaded by its 3,759-foot-tall namesake looming over the east bank, the 1,220-acre Blue Mountain Lake averages 46 feet deep and has a maximum depth of 102 feet. Covering 4,927 acres, Raquette Lake averages 44 feet deep and has a maximum depth of 96 feet. Its shoreline has many cottages and boasts several Great Camps—fabulous log palaces constructed by industrialists and robber barons between 1870 and 1930. Key species: Brook trout, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, brown bullhead, lake trout, landlocked Atlantic salmon, yellow perch, and panfish.
