Spawned as the outlet of Upper Saranac Lake (site 114), this river flows northeast for about 60 miles to its mouth in Lake Champlain at Plattsburgh. Along the way, it feeds and drains several lakes and ponds and picks up its North Branch in Clayburg. Key species: Northern pike, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, walleye, brown trout, rainbow trout, landlocked salmon, yellow perch, and panfish.
