The 568-acre Lower Chateaugay Lake averages 12 feet deep and has a maximum depth of 25 feet. The shoreline is heavily developed with private camps and homes. The wide, windswept, 2,524-acre Upper Chateaugay Lake averages 33 feet deep and has a maximum depth of 72 feet. Its shoreline is mostly sand and silt, and heavily developed with camps. The Chateaugay River drains Lower Chateaugay Lake and runs north for about 13 miles to Canada, cutting a fabulous chasm along the way. Key species: Northern pike, rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, landlocked Atlantic salmon, yellow perch, pumpkinseed, lake trout, brown trout, brook trout, and perch.
