Overview: A 500-acre State Park on the south bank of the Crooked River near Cumberland Sound. Best way to fish: boat, bank. This State Park is popular with anglers and other visitors to the Georgia coast. The park contains the ruins of the McIntosh Sugar Works, which was built around 1825. The mill was used as a starch factory during the Civil War. The area offers some very good fishing for spotted seatrout and red drum. Boating anglers will like the improved launching facilities, and bank anglers have plenty of fishing opportunities also. Cumberland Island is easily reached by boat or sea kayak from Crooked River State Park. Key species: red drum, spotted seatrout, flounder, croaker, spot, yellowtail.
