Reed Bingham State Park surrounds a 375-acre lake that has become a major boating and water-skiing attraction in south Georgia. The lake is also popular with anglers and its waters are full of largemouth bass and sunfish. Reed Bingham State Park, named for a local activist who played a significant role in getting the park built, covers 1,620 acres on the coastal plain in south-central Georgia. Central to the park is a 375-acre impoundment of the Little River. The lake is very popular with pleasure boaters and water-skiers, but most of the activity takes place on the more open lower lake, leaving the lake’s shallow upper end for anglers. Besides the lake itself, 3 miles of the Little River upstream of the lake are in the park and open to public fishing. Nature lovers will enjoy visiting the Coastal Plains Nature Trail. The trail leads visitors through a cypress swamp, pitcher plant bog, sandhill area, and other unique habitats typical of south Georgia. Alligators and other wildlife are abundant. Key species: largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish.
