This state-owned facility is important to anglers in two ways: The tract includes not only McDuffie Public Fishing Area, but also one of the State of Georgia’s warm-water fish hatcheries. McDuffie Public Fishing Area contains more than 10 fishing ponds. The ponds range in size from 1 to 30 acres and offer good angling for several different species. The 700-acre area not only contains one of Georgia’s best public fishing areas, it is also home to McDuffie Hatchery, an important source of warm-water fish for the stocking of waters throughout the state. The topography is typical of the upper coastal plain with longleaf pines and sandy soil. Lilypads and other aquatic vegetation are common in the lakes. Key species: largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, channel catfish.
