The smallest of the Tallulah River lakes at only 63 acres, Georgia Power’s Tallulah Lake is an old lake with little angling history. For many years, a complete lack of improved access allowed little Tallulah Lake to stay in the shadow of its larger companions. Impounded by a 126-foot high dam just upstream of Tallulah Falls across what is basically the extreme upper end of Tallulah Gorge, a chasm 2 miles long and nearly 1,000 feet deep, Tallulah Lake is the oldest of Georgia Power’s chain of north Georgia hydropower developments. Until the recent development of Tallulah Gorge State Park, which was created through a partnership between the state of Georgia and Georgia Power Company, the tiny lake had no improved public access. The opening of the park has improved bank access on the upstream side of the dam, but there is no improved boating access. Anglers should have no problem sliding in a canoe, though, and the ambiance of the little lake somehow best lends itself to this sort of fishing. Since the little lake does not have a long history of development and easy access, it has seen very little fishing pressure throughout its life. With no access and virtually no use by anglers, the lake has not been the subject of extensive studies by biologists either. Key species: largemouth bass, spotted bass, sunfish.
