Named for a Cherokee maiden buried nearby, Lake Trahlyta is a 22-acre lake in Vogel State Park, one of Georgia’s oldest and most popular parks. The popularity of the park and the lake means that fishing is a community affair shared with swimmers and paddleboaters. Established in the 1930s and within the Chattahoochee National Forest, Vogel State Park is one of the most popular parks in Georgia. The beautiful mountain scenery and cool climate make Vogel State Park a favorite summer getaway for Georgia families. Although the park is small at 280 acres, it has plenty of attractions. Anglers will be most interested in Lake Trahlyta and its feeder stream, Wolf Creek. Both bodies of water receive periodic stockings of rainbow trout. Warmwater species including largemouth bass and sunfish are also abundant in Lake Trahlyta. Along with fishing, Vogel State Park offers activities for the whole family. Camping, hiking, swimming, picnicking, miniature golf, and paddleboats are all available. Key species: rainbow trout, largemouth bass, bluegill.
