With the Chattahoochee National Fish Hatchery just a short drive down the road, it is no wonder Rock Creek is one of the most heavily stocked trout streams in Georgia. The creek’s tame nature together with the heavy stocking combine to make Rock Creek very popular with families and those after an easy trout supper. A tributary to the Toccoa River, Rock Creek is a small- to medium-sized stream that sees a lot of use. The entire stream flows through lands of the Chattahoochee National Forest and Blue Ridge Wildlife Management Area. The Chattahoochee National Fish Hatchery is located on one of the tributaries to the creek. The easy access, heavy stocking, and a streamside campground make Rock Creek very popular with trout fishing families and anglers interested in catching trout without having to go to the trouble of reaching more remote waters. Although wild trout may be possible in the upper reaches of the stream and its tributaries, it is the 9-inch stocked trout that bring people to Rock Creek. Most of the fish caught will be rainbows. With the heavy use it receives, angling at Rock Creek is a community affair. Key species: rainbow trout, brown trout.
