San Bruno Mountain is an island of open space in the most densely populated part of the San Francisco peninsula. The area north of Guadalupe Canyon Parkway is a state park, and the area to the south is a county park. The two operate cooperatively. Specialty birds: Resident—California Quail; Pygmy Nuthatch; Wrentit; Spotted and California Towhees. Summer—Allen’s Hummingbird, Bullock’s Oriole. Winter—Osprey, White-tailed Kite, Western Meadowlark. Migrant—Western Tanager, Black-headed Grosbeak.
