Cumberland Island is Georgia’s largest barrier island, and a national seashore since 1972. There are a few remaining areas of private land, but most of it is national park. This is also one of the least-birded islands, and it’s good in all seasons but summer (mostly because it is so hot). Key birds: American White Pelican, Common Ground-Dove, Painted Bunting, shorebirds, gulls, terns, salt marsh sparrows. This eTrail provides detailed information on birding strategies for this specific location, the specialty birds and other key birds you might see, directions to each birding spot, and helpful general information.
