This is one of the best birding spots in Georgia, worth visiting any time of year. The number of species that has been seen here is staggering, and includes rarities from almost every family. The best parts of the island to bird vary with the seasons and tides, so note the specific information about each site. There are two spots to check along US Highway 17 before you actually go to Jekyll: a wader roost spot and a tidal flat created as a mitigation area for nearby construction, which is good for shorebirds at low tide. Key birds: Roseate Spoonbill, Gray Kingbird, scoters, shorebirds, gulls, terns, passerine migrants. This eTrail provides detailed information on birding strategies for this specific location, the specialty birds and other key birds you might see, directions to each birding spot, and helpful general information.
