St. Simons Island is another barrier island, somewhat developed, but with some good beach and marsh habitat to bird in any season. This may be the best beach roost site, and it is the best place to look for Reddish Egrets. Most of the birding areas are in the southern part of St. Simons; nearby are numerous restaurants, hotels, and other services. There is also a small park worth checking before you enter the causeway. Key birds: Reddish Egret, Marbled Godwit, Red Knot, Gray Kingbird, Eurasian Collared-Dove, other shorebirds, gulls, terns. This eTrail provides detailed information on birding strategies for this specific location, the specialty birds and other key birds you might see, directions to each birding spot, and helpful general information.
