The Merry Ponds are a collection of ponds of varying sizes and ages crisscrossed with dikes that provide relatively easy access. There are also a couple of small streams with riparian wooded sections along them, and several mostly overgrown fields. This selection of good birding habitat attracts a wide variety of birds all year long and is a great single location for many sought-after species. Key birds: Painted Bunting, Prothonotary Warbler, Least Bittern, Whitecrowned Sparrow, Bald Eagle, Anhinga, Redhead, and other ducks, passerine migrants. This eTrail provides detailed information on birding strategies for this specific location, the specialty birds and other key birds you might see, directions to each birding spot, and helpful general information.
