This area of Dawson Forest WMA is called the City of Atlanta tract. It is a large area of maturing second-growth forest near the Etowah River with many interesting breeding warblers and other neotropical migrants, including a few Blue-winged Warblers. The Etowah River itself is good to bird during migration, and there is a nearby sometimes-flooded area to check for waterfowl or shorebirds. Inside Dawson Forest you’ll bird along a paved road; there are also several good dirt roads to bird for more variety. For non-birders who like to shop, there is a huge outlet mall close by. Key birds: Blue-winged Warbler, Louisiana Waterthrush, Kentucky Warbler, Yellow-throated Warbler, Whip-poor-will, passerine migrants. This eTrail provides detailed information on birding strategies for this specific location, the specialty birds and other key birds you might see, directions to each birding spot, and helpful general information.
