This walk should be planned as an all-day excursion. A challenging walk, it rewards you with incredible views of the Berkshires, quiet woods, massive trees, and outcrops of garnet-studded rock. Access to the white-blazed AT trail is gained by following the blue-blazed access trail, which ascends gradually, passing through forest with some stupendously large trees. Natural steps of tree roots and stones are underfoot, and white birch, many with multiple trunks, are abundant. Glades of maple accent the quiet woods. Near the top is a rock staircase and junction of trails; continue right on the white-blazed AT to the top of Lion’s Head.
