This walk along the Tunxis Trail begins near the midpoint of Ratlum Road, which begins in New Hartford and ends in Barkhamsted. From the summit, when trees are bare, there are outstanding views of the valley to the north, Lake McDonough, the Compensating and Barkhamsted reservoirs, and the east branch of the Farmington River. The rest of the year, the leaves obscure the views. In the winter you can see skiers riding up the lifts and zooming down the slopes of Ski Sundown. Be sure to sign in at the trail register, placed in a wooden box mounted on a tree at the top.
