While the adventure seekers in your family are exploring the Chatfield Trail, those with young children or those who just want to take it easy can explore Chatfield Hollow State Park and its trails. Located 1.5 miles west of Killingworth center on the north side of Route 80, Chatfield Hollow State Park boasts 356 acres of woodland, 18 miles of well-marked hiking trails, and 7-acre Schreeder Pond. Created in the early 1930s, when the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) dammed Chatfield Hollow Brook, today the pond is a popular summer swimming spot (lifeguards are usually on duty) and a favorite of anglers. No boats are allowed on the pond, but land-bound anglers have a chance at sunfish, bullheads, bass, and pickerel. A wheelchair-accessible fishing pier is also available.
