The best time to do this walk is between June 15 and July 15, when the flowers of the Rhododendron Sanctuary in Voluntown are in bloom. Still of interest year-round, this area is alive with color during that period. This is a nice, easy walk for all ages and abilities. The sanctuary is located in the Mount Misery Cedar Swamp of the Pachaug State Forest in Voluntown. For this walk, you’ll be traveling a section of the blue-blazed Nehantic Trail that meets up with the Pachaug Trail to go to the sanctuary and over Mount Misery. The Nehantic then heads north and the Pachaug heads west.
