This flat, paved trail takes you along a former tow path with the historic Windsor Locks Canal on one side and the Enfield Rapids and the Connecticut River on the other. The total path is almost 10 miles, but you can turn around at any point you wish, or you can park at either end and do the entire length. The canal was built in the mid-1800s, and mules and horses were used to pull barges along the canal using this path. Today, anglers, bird-watchers, cyclists, and hikers take advantage of this now-paved trail to enjoy the beauty of the river and its surroundings. It’s not uncommon to see Canada geese, mallard ducks, and blue heron gracing the skies.
