The trail to Silver Dyke Mine begins south of Mina, about 40 miles southeast of Hawthorne, on a wide, unmarked dirt road that heads southwest toward the Excelsior Mountains. This short out-and-back trail climbs 6.2 miles up Silver Dyke Canyon to the remains of the Silver Dyke Mine and mill. The remains at the site are extensive and are interesting to explore. Old cabins, mining equipment, adits, and shafts are scattered throughout the canyon. The trail starts out as a wide, one-lane dirt road traveling through Soda Springs Valley. Formed of dirt and hard packed sand, the drive is bumpy but there are no obstacles until you enter Silver Dyke Canyon. Special Attractions: Extensive Silver Dyke ghost town. Wildlife viewing including big horn sheep. Short, scenic drive into Silver Dyke Canyon within the Excelsior Mountains.
