From the parking area, turn left and follow the universally accessible treadway past bird feeders and two handsome stone structures that were once the home of Esther Lape—the donor of the property—and are now refuge headquarters, to a covered kiosk where a trail map is posted. To begin the hike, backtrack 20 feet to a grassy path and turn right. Continue straight toward the brushy field ahead, rather than turning at the bench.
