Enter maple/ash/oak woods and walk through a gap in an old stone wall to a kiosk, where a trail map is posted. Turn left at the kiosk rather than continuing down the old road. Another stone wall appears on the left where the whiteblazed trail curves right. Note the evergreen Christmas fern and attractive variegated foliage of rattlesnake plantain. Private property borders to the left. At the point where both the wall and the path turn left, lowbush blueberry and shinleaf grow. Walk easily down through patches of hay-scented fern. Red maple, bitternut hickory, black oak, white oak, and black birch—some quite large—are the dominant trees.
