This walk on the Metacomet Trail (part of the New England National Scenic Trail) is marked with pale-blue blazes. Turns are noted by two stacked blazes, with the topmost offset in the direction of the turn. From the pull-off on CT 71, walk north for 0.2 mile to where the Metacomet Trail crosses the highway, just south of the Berlin town line. This area is known as Cat-Hole Pass, because the narrow boulder slopes on either side of the road have provided shelter to bobcats for centuries. This area is certainly not wilderness, but I was fortunate enough to see a bobcat here in the 1970s, and they are probably still here.
