Take a trail map, available at the kiosk, where you may also sign in, and follow red-blazed Laurel Trail past the wooden gate toward Godfrey Pond. White oaks are abundant, and chestnut oaks, black birches, and red maples are common too, above a dense shrub layer of mountain laurel and some witch hazel. The wide path leads uphill. Walk downhill amid gneiss boulders.
