From the northeast corner of the parking area, follow the gravel path north through a field of sensitive fern, goldenrod, and isolated islands of willow, alder, apple, and red cedar. Just beyond a shed, the pale-blue-blazed Lion’s Head Trail turns left (west) and follows a wide cart path lined with barberry and honeysuckle bushes beneath the spreading boughs of wild apple, cherry, and ash trees. The apple trees are covered with blush-white, lightly fragrant flowers just after Mother’s Day each year. The blossoms attract bumble- and honeybees as well as hummingbirds.
