Children of all ages discover rocks to climb, pinnacles to reach, and streams to investigate on this intriguing trail leading to what my then-twelve-year-old son called an awesome rock formation. Groups consisting of those with little legs and those with strong, eager ones will ?nd a number of satisfying destinations along the way. From the trailhead parking lot, the trail meanders through aspen meadows fringed with pines. Clear, shallow, gravel-bottomed Fourmile Creek accompanies hikers as they enter a marshy area at 0.3 mile. Look up here to see the trail’s namesake crags, a group of rock pinnacles on the horizon. Entering a meadow at about 0.5 mile, point out the tangles of gray, fallen aspen trees on the left. Ask kids what kind of tree is growing in place of the aspens (pine trees and spruces).
