Mt. Conness was named in 1863 by the Whitney Survey party in honor of John Conness, the survey’s benefactor in the U.S. Senate. The north ridge of Mt. Conness is an enjoyable climb that involves dramatically exposed moves on excellent rock at a moderate grade. The crux is a tower high on the ridge, which you must downclimb (5.6) or rappel. Beginning on the Conness Glacier, this route has more of an alpine feeling than the neighboring west ridge.
