The western side of Mt. Conness is a series of convoluted ridges and gullies rising above the deep blue waters of Roosevelt Lake. The west ridge is the most southerly of these and forms the border with the great southwest face. The arete is about 1,500 feet and tremendously exposed at times. The rock is excellent, offering fine-grained granite with many finger cracks. This is really more of a rib than a ridge, averaging no more than 20 feet in most places, with two precarious notches to traverse along the way.
