The spectacular Eichorn Pinnacle is an enticing sight from the summit of Cathedral Peak, but few climbers actually venture to the tiny summit perch. Jules Eichorn and Glen Dawson made the first ascent in July of 1931, climbing cracks on the north face, and then finishing up a flake along the top of the narrow west pillar. This climb took place while the climbers were on their way to the Sierra Club’s Underhill Camp in the Ritter Range. Although Francis Farquhar had given them a cursory introduction to belay techniques before this climb, the exposed and technical ascent must have been a daring adventure.
