Mt. Goode is named for Richard Goode, a topographer with the USGS during the late 1800s. The north face of the peak is an impressive sight to the hundreds of backpackers who make the trek over Bishop Pass every year, and it is somewhat surprising that the first ascent of this feature did not occur until the mid-1970s. Good rock, interesting climbing, and exposure that dramatically increases with each pitch characterize the route on the north buttress. The crux involves passing a roof high on the crest of the buttress.
