As the northeastern face of Temple Crag catches the first oblique rays of sunrise, a narrow ridge in the center stands as a ribbon of sunlight against the dark face. This led Don Jensen to name it the Sun Ribbon Arete. Jensen was one of the most accomplished climbers of his day. Prior to moving to the Palisades, he had been a member of the Harvard Mountaineering Club teams that climbed the West Face of Mt. Huntington and the Wickersham Wall on Denali, and twice attempted Mt. Deborah. Jensen was certainly the most driven of the guides at the Palisades School of Mountaineering, guiding all week and then bagging first ascents on the weekends.
