The topography within Moreau Lake State Park varies widely, from flat areas adjacent to Moreau Lake to steep and rocky outcroppings associated with the mountainous ridges of the upland sections. Skiers and other winter trail users may enjoy several loops of campsite roads, which are maintained in season, but unplowed in the winter. As with most New York State parks, motorized vehicles are not permitted on the trails in the winter. However, some of the newly acquired sections near Spier Falls may be allowed to remain as snowmobile trails. Winter trail users may observe a variety of fauna here, including white-tailed deer, turkeys, and small mammals such as raccoons, squirrels, chipmunks, and muskrats. Numerous bird species are also found in the park, including owls and an occasional sighting of the pileated woodpecker. Mallard ducks and Canada geese rest in the ponds in the spring and fall. Ice fishing for trout and pickerel is a popular winter activity at Moreau Lake State Park. Ice-skating and the annual ice-fishing contest bring many local families back to the park to enjoy the lake in winter. Surface quality: Ungroomed, skier tracked.
