The Sacramento River, California’s longest and largest, begins in the Trinity Divide just west of Mount Shasta. Below Lake Siskiyou and the Box Canyon of the Sacramento, there are very few places to hike along the river. The longest section of trail on the upper Sacramento River is the Sacramento River Trail in Castle Crags State Park. This easy hike offers great views of the wild, raucous river, beautiful flora, and some interesting geology.
