Leaving the Sacramento River, the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) makes a long ascent to the crest of the Trinity Divide, the mountain range immediately to the west of Mount Shasta. The first part of the ascent follows the lower flanks of the mighty towers of the Castle Crags. This shuttle hike climbs up to the PCT and then follows it down to the Soda Springs trailhead near I-5 and the Sacramento River. Along the way, it crosses many remote creeks and has fantastic views of the Crags’ awesome towers.
