The hike to Whitney Falls was once one of the classic trails on Mount Shasta. The falls are the obvious highlight, yet even before you get to the main attraction, magnificent views, a wild creek through volcanic country, lava flows, and dramatic examples of nature’s ability to reshape the landscape all combine to make this a beautiful, memorable journey on Mount Shasta’s lonely north side. Whitney Falls is a gorgeous waterfall on Mount Shasta’s north side. At an elevation of about 6,700 feet, it is the lowest of the mountain’s major waterfalls and the only one that has a trail dedicated to it. The hike to the falls has fantastic scenery, fascinating geology, and great potential for solitude. Unfortunately, Whitney Creek tends to be fickle about its volume, and it is possible to hike to the overlook and find no water falling.
