Just below Lake Siskiyou is the Sacramento River’s Box Canyon, a narrow gorge with tall cliffs. The trail meanders along the rim of the canyon with frequent views down into the interior. An unusual car cemetery in the woods makes an interesting feature for history and car buffs. The trail ends at a large rock outcropping with a great perspective on the river that races along the bottom of the canyon. A spur route near the beginning of the hike leads to a short, via ferrata-esque descent down the cliffs to the river using iron ladders and ropes.
