Walk a pleasant old woods road to a freshwater lake graced with lily pads and surrounded by ledges. Then steeply drop to Shingle Bay to the site of a once thriving fish-packing plant, now quiet coastline within the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve (GINPR). Roe Lake sits in the center of a large wooded tract acquired in 2003 by Parks Canada for the establishment of the GINPR. There is currently only one official trail across this tract, but the property contains miles of old woods roads frequented by islanders. The official trail follows an old woods road through second-growth forest.
