This short and steep hike to an open hilltop is long on views of emerald islands and snowy mountaintops, from Vancouver Island to British Columbia’s Lower Mainland. Ferries and other boats ply the busy channels below. And majestic eagles perch on windblown snags above slopes that come alive with color in spring. Popular with islanders, the trail at George Hill delivers some nice views. But you'll have to work for them, clambering up ledges on a rocky and rooty route. The trail starts by entering thick forest, cutting through big boughs of ferns. The way is steep. A few hand railings offer assistance. Scoot beneath some rocky ledges before surmounting yet another.
