The cemetery of the first family of Daphne, dating back to the early 1800s; a giant oak tree where it is believed Andrew Jackson rallied his troops during the War of 1812; and the legend of pirates like Jean Lafitte hiding out under the bluffs is just some of the history awaiting you on this family-friendly loop hike through Daphne’s Village Point Park Preserve. Situated on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay in the town of Daphne, just south of the second-largest river delta in the country, the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta, there is a plot of land that may be small in size but is packed with some amazing history. It’s called Village Point Park Preserve. Along the park’s wide gravel, dirt, and boardwalk paths, you will visit the cemetery of the town’s earliest settlers, walk the beach where pirates once roamed, and have a good-natured disagreement with your historian friends at the Jackson Oak.
