The Fort Toulouse-Fort Jackson Loop is another great hike with several thousand years of history rolled into one. You will be retracing the steps of nomadic hunters who roamed this land thousands of years ago, as well as those of botanist to King George III, William Bartram, and visiting the site of the forts that at one time or another were controlled by the Spanish, French, British, and Americans. Fort Toulouse–Fort Jackson National Historic Park is more than just the site of a historic nineteenth-century fort. Its history goes far beyond that, reaching back to 5,000 BC when the first Native Americans roamed this land. Since that time this location on the banks of the Coosa River has seen almost nonstop human occupation and plenty of history that helped build this country.
