The Roman god Vulcan is the god of fire and forge, a symbol of iron and steel, so it is no wonder that a statue of Vulcan stands high about the “Magic City” of Birmingham. Vulcan is the Roman god of fire and the patron of metal working—smithing. So it was only fitting that high atop Red Mountain, where the city of Birmingham’s economic future was born with the iron ore mining industry, a statue to Vulcan was erected. The statue is impressive in itself.
