Take a walk along an old mining road for a glimpse at Ruffner Mountain’s mining past along the Quarry Trail. This easy to moderate walk takes you through a beautiful mixed hardwood forest that culminates in a spectacular view of the mountain’s old limestone quarry. The Quarry Trail is called the backbone of the preserve. It runs down the spine of the mountain—with many side trails branching o—taking ff visitors not only to the mining history of the area but also to beautiful wetlands and hardwood forests. You can create a wide variety of hiking experiences just by starting on this trail. The Quarry Trail is white blazed and runs the length of the park from north to south. Intersections are well marked with unique wooden signs pointing the direction to each trail.
