A nice walk in the woods at Lake Guntersville State Park takes you to the King’s Chapel Cemetery. Named for one of the families that previously owned the land where the park is now located, the cemetery dates back to the late 1800s. It is the final resting place of the King family and other notable families from the area including Terrell and Rollins. At Lake Guntersville State Park you will notice trails and features with names like the Terrell Trail, Ellenburg Mountain, and Taylor Mountain. These are all names of families that once settled and lived on the land where the park now resides until the 1930s. Today you would be hard pressed to find artifacts from these families on the hillsides of Guntersville.
