Glen Lake is a high-country Bitterroot Mountain gem. Craggy granite spires erupt above the lakeshore. You’re not in the canyon bottoms anymore! The elevation of the trailhead is high, making this excursion less painful than it could be. The Glen Lake Trail (232) offers big views down into the Bitterroot Valley and Big Creek, thanks in part to the 2006 Gash Creek Fire that burned hot through the area. The trees are scorched for the most part, but the understory is recovering nicely. You will pass a couple of large throne-size rock outcrops on a ridge you will cross during the approach to the lake.
