The Big Creek Trail (11) is in the biggest drainage in the Bitterroot Range. The broad valley is blanketed in thick cedar and fir forest; its boulder-choked stream is lined with lush shrubs. This hike takes you into the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness boundary and is home to a wide variety of wilderness species. Pileated woodpeckers, goshawks, lynx, and gray wolves roam this canyon, along with a host of other wildlife. The hike leads you through dense canopy to the pack bridge over the creek, with options to extend the journey.
