The Bass Creek Trail takes hikers among big trees and towering canyon walls. The trail leads up a cascading creek with several short spur access trails. At 2.0 miles a log dam serves as a good turnaround point. It offers good views farther up the creek to some craggy granite spires in the high Bitterroot Mountain range. The landscape has been scraped by glaciers here, and bedrock prevails in several spots. A variety of wild forest creatures live in here. Lucky hikers may even encounter a wolf or hear one howl. Mountain goats frequent the sheer cliff faces.
