Ravine Creek is Grant Creek’s little-known backdoor access point to the Rattlesnake Wilderness and Recreation Area. This trail instantly places hikers into thick Douglas fir forest as it winds up the mountainside from the bottom of Ravine Creek. Views stretch into upper Grant Creek. The trail ends on a ridgetop at the intersection of Trail 24.1. Turn left and a brief walk will lead you to a rocky outcrop with a view of upper Grant Creek at a trail junction. Continue up the trail and eventually you will top out on Stuart Peak. This trail is the most direct route to that peak. This tiny, quiet access point to the Rattlesnake National Recreation Area and Wilderness is often overlooked. When most people think of Rattlesnake access, they naturally think of Rattlesnake Creek, with its four trailheads and numerous drainages. This sort of thinking keeps the tiny parking lot at Ravine Road empty. Cars do come and go, but they’re mainly locals taking the dog for a 0.5-mile trot. In many ways, the Ravine Creek Trail (34) serves as a Grant Creek neighborhood access to the meadows of Sawmill Gulch, the Curry Cabin, and the most direct route up Stuart Peak.
